Folio

  1. The format of a book printed on sheets of paper, folded in half once to make two leaves or four pages. Type of folio and size of book depend on the size of the sheets. Large sheets may be folded more than once. Also refers to the leaf of a book or manuscript numbered at the top or bottom of the recto only. When only the leaves are numbered, a book is said to be foliated, rather than paginated.
