A poster session usually involves an array of display booths. These are set up where researchers can visually present their work, offer handouts for more detailed information, and discuss their findings with passers-by. A science fair is an example of a poster session.

Poster sessions are components of many library conferences. Presenting at a poster session can be a good way to gain experience making professional contributions, without the without the level of peer-review or amount of preparation necessary to deliver a formal conference presentation.
