A cataloger famous for inventing controlled vocabulary outside of official channels. This contributed to his departure from the post of lead cataloger at the Hennepin County Public Library in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He is also known for his advocacy for library services to the poor.

Sandy, as he is popularly known, facilitated revolutionizing the subject headings, in more than one ways. One example of his original contribution can be viewed at [Google print]. With his life long effort to be innovative and create alternative ways of cataloging, he has been a faciltator also towards information visualization and thereby helped extension of the life of [library catalogs].
