  1. A person who describes and lists books and other publications, especially with regard to such characteristics as authorship, publication date, typography, edition, etc. The result of such work is known as a bibliography.
  2. A librarian responsible for collection development and selection may also be called a bibliopgrapher.
  3. Technically, the word refers to anyone writing about books. In the university setting, bibliographer often refers to librarians who are also subject specialists. Bibliographers help the university libraries to develop their collections to serve the libraries research and instructional goals. To become a bibliographer one often needs to have an MLIS/MLS degree with an additional Master’s degree in one's subject of specialty.
