Circulation desk

From LISWiki
(Redirected from Circ desk)
Jump to: navigation, search

A service desk (sometimes called the "Circ Desk" or "Customer Service Desk") that handles the circulation of library materials; the point of service where books and other materials are checked in and out of a library, usually located near the entrance. Recently, there has been a more progressive shift towards the transparency of departments. In some cases the circulation department may also be labelled as account services.

Items on hold or reserve are usually available at the circulation desk. Circulation desks also handle such patron needs as checking out books, returning books, placing holds and reserves, issuing a new library card and paying service charges.

A service desk also can assist user locating library materials and sometimes answer simple questions.

The Circulation desk is usually staffed by paraprofessionals.
