The International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) is a standard for descriptive cataloging issued by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. The preliminary consolidated edition was published in 2007 and replaces the previous ISBDs for different material types. The consolidated edition, including the new Area 0, was published in 2011. The ISBD standardizes the elements used in a bibliographic description and the punctuation used between them. It has served as a basis for AACR2 and other national cataloging codes.
