Library Awareness Program
From LISWiki
The Library Awareness Program was an intelligence gathering operation run by the FBI primarily in New York area libraries. Once discovered there was great outcry against the measure both within the library profession and the general public. It led to some congressional hearings on the matter and caused many libraries to devise formal policies regarding requests for information about patrons.
