Current periodicals department

Refers to the area of a library (or the staff who maintain said materials) where the most recent magazines, journals, newspapers, and other periodicals are kept. Some libraries allow browsing of the entire current periodicals department, while some maintain an 'on call' system for retrieval (cf. closed stacks).
