Identity theft

Jump to: navigation, search

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information such as your name, Social Security number, credit card number or other identifying information, without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes.

As with many legal and technical issues, librarians often help patrons with identity theft protection, detection, and coping.

Identity theft victims can unknowingly accumulate library service charges.
