Reference books

From LISWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

A book designed to be used to find specific items of information, rather than read cover-to-cover. Reference books include dictionaries, concordances, encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, and atlases. Reference books are usually shelved in a separate section known as the reference stacks. In most libraries, reference books may not be checked out because they are needed on a daily basis to answer questions at the reference desk.
